Tools for Classroom Instruction That Works (CITW)

During this session, McREL's Classroom Instruction That Works gives educators a clear, consistent approach to instruction, providing recommendations and tools for developing stronger lesson plans, effective classroom delivery, and a common vocabulary for teaching and sharing of best practices across schools and districts.

Learning That Sticks

Good teachers know what to do. Great ones know why and when to use certain instruction strategies for best effect—and they know how to adapt lessons and learning activities to match the specific needs of their students. The theoretical and scientific breakthroughs that made Learning That Sticks (Goodwin, Gibson, & Rouleau, 2020) possible can help any teacher guide student learning with unique precision.

Writing Strategies for All

Teaching students how to improve their writing helps students increase comprehension and content knowledge. During this session participants will learn strategies and activities to use in all grades and content areas to help students improve their writing. Participants will also learn how to use writing instruction and assignments as a learning activity.

Day 1: 8:30-4:30 PM Tools for Classroom Instruction That Works by McREL assisted by Jillian Dietchman
Day 2: 8:30-12:15AM Learning That Sticks by McREL assisted by Jillian Dietchman and 8:30-12:15AM Writing Strategies for All by Sarah McFadden
Day 2: 1:15-4:30PM Learning That Sticks by McREL assisted by Jillian Dietchman and 1:15-4:30PM Writing Strategies for All by Sarah McFadden

Day 2 classes are limited to 70 participants in each session to ensure relatively even presenter loads. Please bring your own writing utensils and paper!

Cost for the 2-day conference: $150 per person.

One graduate credit is offered through DSU at an additional charge of $50.00 payable to DSU at https://dsu-ndus.nbsstore.net. Please note that you must attend both full days to qualify for one credit.

Day 1 is an all-day event featuring "Tools for Classroom Instruction That Works." Day 2 will have 2 classes in the morning that are repeated in the afternoon: "Learning That Sticks" and "Writing Strategies for All." There is a class limit in place to ensure an equitable distribution of educators in each session. You must attend both days to receive graduate credit. Please bring your own writing utensils and pads!
